for participation in an artwork presented at Dark Mofo, Hobart Tasmania 2026
We are seeking masculine or androgynous-presenting performers to take part in a large-scale live performance. This work brings together a large ensemble of performers.
No prior performance experience is required - we welcome applicants who feel confident they meet the requirements of the work.
The Work
The Work
Performers will be required to stand still with an object in their mouth for extended periods of 30-40 minutes at a time, maintaining focus and physical control throughout the duration of the performance.
This is a physically and mentally demanding work, requiring concentration, discipline, and the ability to remain composed under close audience observation.
Some performers will be positioned at height (up to approximately 5 metres), with all appropriate safety measures in place.

We are seeking individuals who:
- Present as masculine or androgynous (all gender identities welcome)
- Are aged approximately 30–80 years old and we strongly encourage older performers to apply
- Have a height between 170–187 cm (when wearing dress shoes)
- Fit within a general clothing size range of M–XL
- Be comfortable performing in front of a large audience
- Be comfortable standing still for 30-40 minutes at a time
- Be comfortable holding an object in their mouth for 30-40 minutes at a time
- Be comfortable working collaboratively within a large ensemble

- No visible tattoos outside of the costume (long sleeves and long pants)
- No visible piercings or jewellery
- Clean-shaven or neat, closely shaven facial hair
Availability
Applicants must be available in Hobart, Tasmania for all required rehearsal and performance dates:
- Sunday 7 June: full day/evening
- Wednesday 10 June: full day/evening
- Thursday 11 – Sunday 14 June: between 2pm and 10.30pm
- Thursday 18 – Sunday 21 June: between 2pm and 10.30pm
Important Considerations
- Performers must be comfortable with prolonged stillness, physical endurance, and sustained concentration
- The work involves close audience proximity and extended periods without movement
- Selected performers must not be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication that affects their alertness or physical stability during rehearsals or performances
- Performers are responsible for their own travel.
