As night falls, traipse up to the old Beaumaris Zoo to bear witness to a ‘digital de-extinction’ of the legendary Tasmanian tiger via sweeping projections, sound and light (the last living tiger on record died there in the 1930s). A cast of strange and spectral characters haunts the shadows and interacts with neo-mythological memes, scientific thinking, and gene-splicing technology. Oursler’s sprawling new work confronts the erosion of critical thought, and the rise of misinformation, conspiracy theories, superstition, and magical thinking, inviting us to ask: is truth on the verge of extinction?
